Coronavirus: 240 volunteer caregivers left metropolis for the West Indies

On Monday, two planes departed from Paris to allow 240 caretakers, 60 firefighters and 70 members of civil security to reach the West Indies. These volunteers are preparing to help hospitals overwhelmed by coronavirus patients.

On Sunday night, Health Minister Olivier Véran had appealed to caregivers in the metropolis to help their colleagues as the hospital situation in the West Indies continues to deteriorate.

And nearly 350 people responded positively to this call. This Monday, these volunteer caregivers left Paris to come to support their colleagues in Martinique and Guadeloupe.

For his part, the Overseas Minister, Sébastien Lecornu, arrived in Guadeloupe this Tuesday. Before leaving, he confided that the state of health is “extremely serious” in the place. In fact, “the incidence rate in Guadeloupe last night was more than 1,700 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, that of Martinique was 1,165. And then, obviously, there is the number of deaths each day that marks the severity and violence of this wave ”.

On Thursday he will travel to Martinique, where he will join Olivier Véran.
