A referee involved in a recent contentious match has been appointed as a fourth official for an upcoming high-profile Portuguese league game, drawing renewed focus on officiating decisions.
Gustavo Correia, 33, will serve as the fourth official for the FC Porto-Estoril clash, scheduled to be played at Estádio do Dragão. The referee appointments for the 12th round of Liga Portugal Betclic were announced Wednesday by the Arbitration Council.
Correia was part of the officiating team for a “controversial” Matchday 11 encounter between Benfica and Casa Pia, which had attracted significant media attention. His new assignment, though in a different capacity, places him back in the spotlight for a major league fixture.
André Narciso will be the main referee for the FC Porto-Estoril match. He will be assisted by Rúben Silva and André Botelho. João Malheiro Pinto will serve as the Video Assistant Referee (VAR), with Pedro Felisberto as Assistant VAR (AVAR).
Other key appointments for the 12th round include Iancu Vasilica, who will referee Nacional-Benfica in Madeira. That match is scheduled for Saturday at 6:00 PM local time. José Pereira and João Bessa Silva are the assistants, Sérgio Guelho the fourth official, Rui Oliveira the VAR, and Tiago Leandro the AVAR.
Anzhony Rodrigues, 37, will officiate Sporting-Estrela da Amadora in Alvalade on Sunday at 6:00 PM local time. Andreia Sousa and David Soares will assist him, while Diogo Rosa is the fourth official. Manuel Oliveira will be the VAR, and Nuno Eiras the AVAR.
