Willson Contreras homered, Christopher Morel knocked out a runner at the plate with an impressive pitch from center field, and the Chicago Cubs beat the Cincinnati Reds 8-3 on Wednesday.
Contreras was hit by a pitch and scored on Ian Happ’s double off Hunter Greene in the first inning. He made it 5-0 in the fifth after hitting a two-run homer, his 13th of the season, off Luis Cessa. The Venezuelan, who is one of the catchers with the most homers in the majors, also hit two doubles.
Justin Steele (3-5) claimed the victory after allowing six hits and a score in five innings of work in which he struck out six.
Greene (3-9), who spent just four innings on the mound, took the loss after giving up three runs and two hits.
For the Reds, Colombian Donovan Solano 4-0.
