Conor McGregor, the most media-friendly figure in mixed martial arts, made a dramatic entrance in Marbella, Andalusia, on October 12. The Irishman is set to face Franco Tenaglia from the Climent Club and Tony “Loco” Soto for the world lightweight belt in Bare Knuckle boxing, a company he co-founded with David Feeldman.
A Profitable Bet
McGregor, who attended a press conference in Marbella, recalled Spain’s triumph in the World Cup, which coincided with his 36th birthday. He had bet on the Spanish team to win before the tournament started and was proved right. “The young boy, Lamine Yamal, I think he is in the hands of God and he burst in,” McGregor said.
Bare Knuckle’s Arrival in Marbella
McGregor expressed his love for Spain, citing Ibiza and Marbella as regular destinations. He mentioned Ibai Llanos’ La Velada IV as a point of reference to confirm that choosing Spain as the host country for Bare Knuckle was correct. “One factor that played a role was certainly the fact that we saw the recent success where a stadium filled to 80,000 spectators. A mega event, in an open-air arena, with excited fans,” he said.
Ilia Topuria Responds
The UFC featherweight champion, Ilia Topuria, was quick to respond to McGregor’s statements. Topuria replied on his Twitter account, saying, “Dedito! Welcome to my house. Great to see you working for us! Come to Madrid and we’ll see who beats who. Topuria Knuckles for dinner!!!”
