Conep calls for greater scrutiny of the assets of the candidates and the contributions they receive

The National Council of Private Enterprise (Conep) highlighted the work carried out by legislators to approve the Electoral Regime bill and recommended a series of aspects that the piece should have.

The Conep recommended to the legislators to include in the project the eradication of the possibility that illicit resources could “permeate political activity”, in order to prevent organized crime from transferring the political parties and to “strengthen the scrutiny of the patrimony of the candidates and the contributions they receive.

Similarly, the business sector advocated strengthening the role of control and supervision of the Central Electoral Board (JCE), as the governing body, through its control unit.

“This gives him the power to impose on political parties to comply with the declarations, reports and obligations that guarantee due transparency and supervision of their income and expenses, as well as private financing of pre-candidates and candidates, and pre-campaign spending. and campaigns”, commented the businessmen in a press release.

On the other hand, they suggested reinforcing the regulatory power of the JCE, which authorizes it to issue general regulations aimed at the execution and compliance with the law.

The Conep recalled that they have already expressed to the Senate of the Republic and to the Economic and Social Council (CES) their position on the relevance and relevance of the adequacy of the Electoral Regime Law.
