In the world of modern photography, smartphones have revolutionized the way we capture moments.

However, despite all the sophisticated technology, sometimes unexpected and surprising results occur, such as: the recent case of a woman in the UK whose thoughts in a picture did not match.

The story revolves around Tessa Coates, a British comedian and actress. While trying on wedding dresses, she came across a surprising photo that she shared on her Instagram account. In the picture, Coates was seen in a dress in front of two mirrors. but each of the three versions of her presented a different pose.

In one mirror she reflected herself with her arms down, in the other she could see her hands clasped at her waist and her true image showed her with her left arm at her side. For anyone unfamiliar with the technical details, this image might seem disturbing.

 

What really happened here was a flaw in Apple’s computational photography process. The camera did not realize that it was recording a mirror image and treated the three versions of Coates as if they were different people.

Coates was moving at the time the photo was taken, so pressing the shutter button at that moment captured several different images. Apple’s algorithm stitches together the photos and selects the best versions in terms of saturation, contrast, detail and lack of blur.

The final composite image should represent the best and most realistic interpretation of that moment. However, since there is a mirror, The algorithm determined that the different times displayed in each mirror were the best for each reflectionwhich resulted in three different Tessas.
