Common people are spending more on smoking than on food

Amman: In the Middle Eastern country of Jordan, people are spending more on smoking than on food, with Jordan leading the world in terms of the number of smokers and spending on smoking.

According to the data released by the World Health Organization Oman Branch, the smoking rate among adults (18 to 69 years) in Jordan is 66.1 percent.

Jordanians are using cigarettes, cigars, hookah and various hot tobacco products while 15.9 percent are using e-cigarettes.

The report said that the overall nicotine prevalence among Jordanian adults has reached 82 percent.

According to the Jordanian Ministry of Health, more than 26 clinics have been established in different regions of the country to help people who want to get rid of smoking.

Trained health personnel are deployed in these clinics, more than eleven thousand people approached these clinics during the year 2022.
