Flags, swastikas, SS acronyms… Regularly, auctions of Nazi objects are organized in France, legally. But should we ban these sales?
Many Nazi objects are regularly offered at auctions in France. If they are legal, these sales are specially regulated. A man is now tracking this commerce on the Internet in an attempt to ban it, in the name of morality. Hundreds of objects are accessible with just a few clicks. “I’m going to WWII, Germany…”. He wants to remain anonymous for security reasons.
“You have an SS helmet here. You have to know it costs 7,000 euros and sells like a hot cake.” In his struggle, the internet researcher managed to cancel several auctions in the provinces. Which earned him arms passes with auctioneers. In the penal code, article R645-1 stipulates that it is “the fact of wearing or exhibiting in public a uniform, badge or insignia that remember (…) the members of a declared organization was punished”.
