Club Nacional Condemns Player Assault: No Place for Sports Violence

A Portuguese football club on the island of Madeira has strongly condemned an act of violence against one of its players by an opponent following a recent amateur league match, pledging full cooperation with authorities.

Club Nacional issued a statement on its official website, expressing “most vehement repudiation” of the incident.

The violence occurred last Saturday after a match between Nacional’s Senior ‘B’ team and Associação Desportiva do Porto da Cruz.

An athlete from Nacional was assaulted by an opponent outside the sports venue, following the conclusion of the 1st Regional Division Championship game.

The club described the act as “unacceptable and contrary to the values of sport.”

Nacional affirmed it would cooperate with competent authorities in investigating the “regrettable event.”

The club’s legal department will provide all necessary support to the young athlete involved.

The statement ended with a forceful message: “There is no room for violence in sport, nor in society!”
