Climate: defending the environment “never” justifies “aggression”, says Emmanuel Macron on the sidelines of COP27

While shock actions to denounce the weakness of the States’ commitments against global warming have been on the rise for several weeks, the French president spoke on the subject on Monday 7 November. Emmanuel Macron deemed it normal, during a press conference organized at the end of his participation in the COP27 on the climate in Sharm el-Sheikh, in Egypt, that the youth who “lives the consequences of the disorder” request “to act faster”.

“This cause is just and it is good”, he added. Before continuing: “but I think there is nothing fair or that I consider legitimate that at any given time can justify violence against others”. “You can’t live in a democracy like that”, said the Head of State again.

While he was also questioned on the controversial accusation of “ecoterrorism”, formulated by his Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin after incidents during a demonstration near a construction site of a contested agricultural reservoir in Sainte- Soline, in Deux-Sèvres, Emmanuel Macron did not comment on this term.
