Climate: 3 departments of the Alps put on orange alert for rain and floods

Isère, Haute-Savoie and Savoie are under orange watch by Météo France for the risk of flooding.

the surveillance bulletin de Météo France published at 4 pm indicates that these three departments will be affected by “high intensities of precipitation” and “accumulations of rain in short periods (less than 6 hours)”.

The phenomenon is “serious” according to Météo France but “not exceptional”. However, it requires special monitoring, “given the already high level of the rivers and the saturation of the soils.”

In the departments placed in orange watch, the precipitations could reach “50 to 70 mm in less than 6 hours, which can generate a strong runoff, an overflow of the rivers and landslides”.

The sectors most at risk are found “near the relief” according to Météo France, that is to say “around the Vercors, Chartreuse and Belledone in Isère, the promontory and the pre-Alpine massifs (Chablais, Borne-Aravis, Bauges) in Savoy”.
