Class saves 16 and Guardians beat White Sox

Rookie Hunter Gaddis pitched six solid innings in his first major league win and troubled Cleveland catcher Mike Zunino homered twice as the Guardians beat the Chicago White Sox 3-0 on Monday.

Gaddis (1-1) was called up from Triple-A Columbus and gave the Guardians a much-needed quality start after losing all three of their weekend games to the Mets in New York by one run.

The right-hander allowed just two hits and combined with four relievers for a three-hit game that ended Chicago’s modest three-game winning streak.

Zunino, who arrived as a free agent and has been critical because he isn’t hitting well, hit his third home run — his first since April 28 — in the seventh off Gregory Santos. With the shot to the right of him scored the Venezuelan rookie Gabriel Arias, who had a walk with one out.

Sam Hentges, Nick Sandlin and Trevor Stephan combined for two scoreless innings before Emmanuel Clase worked a perfect ninth for his 16th save in 21 chances.

For the White Sox, Cubans Yoán Moncada 3-0, Yasmani Grandal 3-0.

For the Guardians, Dominicans Amed Rosario 4-1, José Ramírez 4-0. Venezuelan Andrés Giménez 3-0, his compatriot Gabriel Arias 1-0 with two scores.
