Clásica de San Sebastián 2023: profile, route, participants and favorites

After the Tour de France, the great figures of the peloton meet in one of the most demanding one-day races each summer, the San Sebastián Classic, where we can see great figures of the peloton in action such as the current world champion Remco Evenepoel.

The peloton will leave San Sebastián to head towards Orio before tackling the first level of the route, Meaga (3rd, 3.5 km at 3.4%). From here they will go deeper into the interior of Gipuzkoa on the way to Azpeitia before ascending to Iturburu (2nd, 6.6 km to 5.3) and, after the rapid descent to Tolosa, face the ascent to Alkiza (3rd, 4, 4 km at 6.2%). After riding on the way to Hernani and Oiartzun, the race will enter its decisive phase with the ascent to Jaizkibel from Lezo (2nd, 7.9 km at 5.6%) and, after passing through Hondarribia and Irún, the extremely tough ascent to Erlaitz, first category with its 3.8 kilometers at 10.6 %. After descending towards Errenteria and completing a first pass through the finish line in Donostia, the cyclists will face the final stage with the climbs to Mendizorrotz (2nd, 4.1 km at 7.3%) and, after the intermediate sprint of Usurbil, the climb to the Murgil-Tontorra wall, second category with 2.1 kilometers at 10.1%, that they will crown 8 kilometers from the finish line and after which they will make a rapid descent on the way to the finish on the Boulevard of San Sebastián.

Teams and participants of the Clásica de San Sebastián

A total of 25 teams will start the Donostiako Klasikoa, the Clásica de San Sebastián, this Saturday: the 18 World Tour teams to which we must add Total Energies, Lotto-Dstny and Israel – Premier Tech, with a place guaranteed by their sporting classification, and the four invited teams: the Spanish Burgos-BH, Caja Rural -Seguros RGA, Kern Pharma Team and Euskaltel-Euskadi. In this way, a total of 175 runners will start the Klasikoa.

The favorites to win the Clásica de San Sebastián

The Belgian Remco Evenepoel, winner in 2019 and 2022, starts as a great favorite to repeat victory in a San Sebastián Classic where he will have as great rivals cyclists of the stature of Juan Ayuso, Carlos Rodríguez, Simon Yates, Neilson Powless, Ben Healy, Romain Bardet, Bob Jungels, Pello Bilbao, Mikel Landa, Mattias Skjelmose, Giulio Ciccone, Tiesj Benoot or Marc Hirschi among others.
