Imagine being part of a team that creates a game out of pure passion. That’s exactly what happened with Sandfall Interactive, the developers of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, a turn-based RPG.
In an interview with PC Gamer during GDC 2025, producer François Meurisse shared the story behind the game’s creation. It all started in early 2019 when the team, including art director Guillaume Broche, felt a strong craving for a new turn-based RPG.

The success of ATLUS’s Persona 5 only fueled their desire to create their own turn-based RPG. With this passion, Broche and the Sandfall team set out to develop Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. Fast forward to today, and the game is finally a reality.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is set to release on April 24th for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series. This game is a testament to what can be achieved when a team comes together to create something they truly believe in.
