Ciudad del Plata homeowner shot during robbery, thieves escape with $89,600

A 55-year-old man is recovering from a gunshot wound after a daring robbery in his home. The incident occurred at his house on Málaga street, corner of 2nd street, in Ciudad del Plata, Canelones.

The victim recalled arriving home to find four armed men, their faces covered, demanding he hand over the dollars he kept at home. The robbers made off with $4,600 and $85,000, according to the police report. They also stole a cell phone and a revolver.

Before fleeing, one of the robbers shot the victim, causing a serious injury. An ambulance rushed him to a medical center in San José, where he was admitted for treatment. The bullet remains lodged in his body.

Investigation Underway

The police forensic team collected evidence from the scene to help identify the perpetrators, who are still on the run.

An employee discovered the victim after hearing cries for help and approaching the house. The local police and prosecutor’s office are now handling the case.
