City of Football Opens Diogo Jota Esports Arena, Renames FPF Masters Cup

Football City rolled out the red carpet this Saturday for a brand new Esports hub. They named it the Diogo Jota Arena. This fresh space honors a former Portuguese international. He shared a deep passion for electronic sports.

Pedro Proença, the President of the Portuguese Football Federation, spoke about the new facility. He told Canal 11 that the FPF has made big investments in esports. He believes it is important to welcome a whole segment of football fans. The FPF had already planned this investment. Naming the room after Diogo Jota, a true enthusiast, helps “eternalize” it. The best esports players will compete here, he added.

Diogo Jota's family was present at the inauguration

Proença also shared some heartfelt words. He stated that nothing they do could ever replace Diogo Jota’s absence. He emphasized the FPF’s role in remembering those who gave so much to their country and national team. This arena, he explained, is a symbolic way to honor the loss of Diogo, André, and their entire family. He believes a legacy is what we truly leave behind.

Starting today, the new arena at Football City will serve as the official home for the National Virtual Football Teams. These teams will begin their first training camp between today and tomorrow, September 6th and 7th. They are preparing for the FIFAe World Cup of eFootball 2025.

The FPF also announced another tribute this Saturday. The FPF Masters Cup, the top virtual football competition in the country, will now carry Diogo Jota’s name. From today forward, it will be known as the FPF Masters Cup Diogo Jota. This honors his memory and passion for esports.

It is worth remembering that Luna Esports took home the trophy in the 2024 edition. This team was founded by Diogo Jota himself.
