Ruirolba and Citroen Continue Their Winning Streak at the Rias Baixas Rally
A trio of emerging stars, featuring a Citroen, Alpine, and Skoda, have left it all on the track, ensuring the forthcoming rally events in September’s Asturian rallies will be unforgetful.
Diego Ruirolba has opened his summer break with a convincing debut win in the Rias Baixas Rally, climbing to the top, symbolically, in a place very dear to Citroen’s heart. Alejandro Cachón from Spain has met the expectations placed on him, finishing the first half of the rally as the leader. While Alejandro’s team mate Iván Ares had to bid adieu to the event owing to a broken frame, young driver Sérgi Pérez came in a great rescue for Hyundai, giving his team a glimmer of hope.
Unai from the Dehesa has had an unforgettable Rally Spain Junior Scholarship with Peugeot, while Pep Bassas topped Toyota Cup and Gabriel Rodríguez outmaneuvered Juan Pedro in the Sandero Ecco Cup.
Skoda Emerges as the Stronger Contender
In a competition marred by a broken axle that knocked out several star performers, Skoda drivers kept a steady pace to show they are not backing away. In his second outing, Spanish driver Javier Pardo managed to claw back to fourth place, dispossessing his teammate Jorge Cagiao, who has had quite the ride, battling titans in the Super Championship, all under the Alpine banner, in its own right.
