Two young French women join an international brigade alongside Kurdish fighters fighting against Daesh. There they meet Zara, a survivor of the Yezidi Kurdish minority, who is trying to rebuild herself. The story of the film Soeurs d’Armes, directed by Caroline Fourest, is a bit like what Roxanne experienced.
“I don’t think I’m afraid of death”
Roxanne is a former reservist in the French army. She is also a committed author. She returns from Syrian Kurdistan, where she spent two months in a Kurdish women’s battalion. “I was aware of the risks I was taking and I knew exactly why I was taking them. I know those around me were worried about me, but I wasn’t worried. I was ready to take up arms. I don’t don’t think you’re afraid of death,” she said. There, she discovered women fighting for freedom and gender equality. She will soon write a book about her experience.
sisters in arms will be released Wednesday, October 9 at the cinema.
