Washington: The American police arrested the killer of the girl who was killed almost 32 years ago, the suspect’s arrest was surprisingly carried out with the help of a piece of cigarette.
According to foreign media reports, the police have arrested a 59-year-old resident of Washington who is accused of killing a 16-year-old student, Sarah Yarborough, after raping her in 1991.
Accused Patrick Leon Nichols dumped the girl’s body in the bushes near the school’s parking lot after the incident. The victim was strangled to death after being raped.
At the hearing of the case, the judges, after hearing the arguments, found the 59-year-old accused, Patrick Leon Nichols, guilty of raping and murdering the student.
It may be recalled that in October 2019, the police arrested accused Nicholas on charges of murder after using advanced DNA techniques. However, due to insufficient evidence, the prosecution’s case against Nichols was based primarily on DNA evidence.
According to the report, Dr. Colleen Fitzpatrick, founder of Identifiers International, obtained a DNA match to Nichols’ DNA from a used cigarette butt found at the crime scene in October 2019.
On the day of the incident, 16-year-old Sarah was alone in the park shortly before school started when Nicholas grabbed her and dragged her into nearby bushes, assaulted her and later killed her.
