Cibao FC against Motagua in the round of 16 of the Concacaf Champions League

Cibao FC will put all the meat on the grill, when this Wednesday it hosts the Motagua club, from Honduras, in the first leg of the round of 16 of the Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League, with the stadium of the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre and Teacher as stage at 8:00 at night.

This was stated by the Argentine coach Jorge Alfonso and the captain of the “Orange Machinery”, Miguel Lloyd, in a virtual press conference, to express their opinions ahead of the event.

“We have been very busy training as a team and at the same time analyzing the rival, through recorded matches and training sessions, looking for strategies and forms of competition,” said DT Alfonso.

Answering a question, he argued that at the Cibao “we have prepared ourselves for this instance, aware that Motagua is a great rival, with great playing skills. We’re on a mission to figure that out".

"Physically we are fine, and we know that the mental aspect must also be taken into account in our players, and that is what we do”, he said.

Jorge Alfonso was aware that his team will have to work hard against the rival this Wednesday.

He maintained that the goal is to continue growing, make history and advance to the next phase of the Concacaf championship.


On his side, the captain and goalkeeper of the Cibao, Miguel Lloyd, indicated that the team that represents Santiago in professional soccer will work hard to take advantage of the locality, which is always a key factor.

Lloyd, Cibao’s oldest player in this type of event, declared that he is physically healthy, after returning from an injury that took two games out of the Dominican Soccer League championship.

In fact, Lloyd was the team’s goalkeeper last Saturday when they faced Atlético Vega Real and he did not allow them to break his goal, with an excellent performance.

"As you could see last weekend, we are already healthy and ready for this match against a very attacking team, with good breaks and distance management”. He specified.

The Motagua of Honduras, Cibao FC’s rival, has been runner-up three times in the Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League and is the current monarch of their country, while the orange team is the champion of Dominican professional football and runner-up in the recently held champions tournament of the Caribbean.


Although the ball will be started at 8:00 at night, 6:00 in the afternoon in Honduras, the party will start at 5:00 PM with a fan festival, where there will be music, food, drinks and activities for big and boys.
