Bollywood veteran Chunky Panday recently revealed the unconventional start to his film career on the Amazon Prime Video chat show ‘Two Much’. He shared a surprising anecdote about securing his debut role.
Panday and fellow actor Govinda appeared as guests on the popular program, hosted by actresses Kajol and Twinkle Khanna. A promotional clip for the upcoming episode highlighted Panday’s humorous recounting of his journey into cinema.
Chunky Panday disclosed that he met acclaimed film producer Pahlaj Nihalani in an unexpected setting: a bathroom. At the time, Panday had no familial connections in the film industry and had faced years of struggle.
During their chance encounter, Nihalani inquired about Panday’s profession. Upon hearing Panday’s name, Nihalani playfully commented on its unusual nature. Panday then expressed his ambition to work in films.
Nihalani then invited Panday to his home the very next day. This meeting directly led to Panday being offered his very first film role.
Govinda, also present on the show, lightheartedly claimed that the role was originally his but he had declined it, thereby allowing Panday to receive the offer. The two actors reminisced about their early days in the industry.
Panday credited Govinda with consistent support and inspiration during the initial stages of his career. Their bond, forged in the 1980s and 1990s, remains evident in their ongoing camaraderie.
Panday made his film debut with ‘Aag Hi Aag’ in 1987. He gained significant recognition for his portrayal of ‘Babban’ in the critically acclaimed film ‘Tezaab’.
His distinctive comic timing and unique acting style established him as a favorite among audiences. His daughter, Ananya Panday, has since followed in his footsteps and established her own career in Bollywood.
The ‘Two Much’ episode promises an entertaining watch as Panday and Govinda shared how they made their mark in the industry without the aid of traditional “godfathers.”
