Google is rolling out an artificial intelligence feature to its Chrome browser for Android, enabling users to instantly summarize web pages and making advanced AI tools more widely accessible on mobile devices.
The new functionality, powered by Google’s Gemini AI, specifically Gemini 2.5 Flash, allows users to synthesize concepts from any web page with a single tap. This capability accesses the full content of a page, not just the visible portion.
The feature is available starting today in Chrome for Android and the beta version of the Google app. Its introduction expands access to sophisticated AI tools, which were previously limited or required paid subscriptions on other platforms.
This move underscores Google’s broader strategy to integrate AI across its suite of services. The Chrome browser is a critical platform in this effort.
Competitors like Microsoft, Perplexity, and OpenAI are also developing web browsers incorporating their own language models.
Google previously integrated Gemini Live into desktop versions of Chrome for Windows and Mac following last year’s I/O event. This allowed users to ask questions about a page. Initially, these features were restricted to those with Pro or Ultra plans.
In recent weeks, Google made these desktop functionalities available to all free users and improved Gemini’s overall integration with other services.
Beyond summarization, the AI capabilities in Chrome for Android also include screen sharing and the ability to ask questions about specific websites. The summary function is also available in custom tabs, extending to search results, Discover articles, and news feeds.
Google plans to further enhance Gemini for Chrome by integrating AI agent functionalities. These future tools will allow users to request the AI to navigate and perform actions such as buying products, paying for services, or booking travel.
