The Ministry of Sports and Recreation (Miderec) officially presented this Wednesday the momentous First Christmas Sports Festival, to be held between November 26 and December 19, which will impact the 158 municipalities of the country, and in which 71,100 will participate athletes who will compete for prizes for more than 52 million pesos.
The details were offered this Wednesday at the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center, during a meeting with the press, after a meeting with all the regional and provincial directors of Miderec, led by the Minister of Sports, Francisco Camacho.
The 2021 Christmas Sports Festival will have an extraordinary impact throughout the country, as it will help boost the economy of all its communities and will employ almost 5,000 sports technicians and officials.
Its implementation has the backing of the Government of President Luis Abinader, through the Ministry of Sports, in addition to the General Directorate of Strategic and Special Projects of the Presidency (Propeep) led by Minister José (Neney) Cabrera.
The Dominican Municipal League (LMD) and the Dominican Federation of Municipalities (Fedomu) also support the event.
The event was led by the Vice Ministers of Administrative Sports, Franklin De la Mota; from the Eastern Region, Leopoldo Soler, and Kennedy Vargas, from the Southern Region.
Also, by Neftalí Ventura, Technical Director; Miguel Camacho, Special Technical Advisor; Heyda Joaquín, head of the Regional Directions and José Daniel Calzada, advisor to the Minister of Sports.
The competition
The details of the festival were offered by Ventura, who revealed that during the multidisciplinary contest the athletes will compete in baseball, U-12 category, women’s U-16 volleyball, men’s U-23 basketball, women’s 3×3 basketball and men’s and women’s open category softball. .
He highlighted that the project will begin on November 26 with the integration of all the municipalities of the national geography, to immediately access the qualifying rounds, on the 27th and 28th.
“Each municipality will select four teams that will represent them on the aforementioned dates, where the technicians of the Ministry of Sports will discard the losers in each of the participating disciplines.” Ventura pointed out.
He explained that the event will include the municipal, provincial, regional and national phases, divided into several zones, whose representative athletes will be competing for the first places in their respective disciplines.
“The competition system that we will implement will be one round (all against all), where the winner qualifies for the next phase,” added the official.
