Christian Bethancourt hit an RBI single in the top of the ninth to lead the Estrellas Orientales to a 3-2 victory over the Tigres del Licey, in a game held Tuesday night at Quisqueya Juan Marichal Park.
Bethancourt also hit a home run in the fourth inning, becoming one of the executioners of the blue pitching.
The victory strengthens the leadership of the Orientals in the standings, while the Licey sinks further into the basement (9-13).
The victory went to Ronel Blanco (2-0) who had an inning task in which he struck out two and Wirfin Obispo threw the ninth inning blank, for his eighth save of the season. The loss went to fellow reliever Jairo Asencio.
After a Junior Lake double that hit the top of the left-field fence and the video review was used to determine that he did not leave the park, Licey closer Jairo Asencio retired Oscar González before allowing the Bethancourt hit, the first run Asencio allowed this season.
