Chris Brown Released on Bail in UK Assault Case

Chris Brown is out of jail, at least for now. The Grammy-winning singer was released on $6.7 million bail after a judge in London decided he could travel the world. This means Brown can start his world tour next month as planned.

The judge, Tony Baumgartner, said Brown can tour in the UK, but he has to pay bail to guarantee he’ll show up in court. Brown was released from a jail in Salford, just outside Manchester, late in the day. He was arrested at a hotel last week.

The trouble started in February 2023 when Brown allegedly attacked music producer Abe Diau at a nightclub. The prosecutor, Hannah Nicholls, told a court in Manchester that Brown hit Diau with a bottle multiple times and then punched and kicked him in front of a crowd.

Brown’s friend, Omololu Akinlolu, who performs as “Hoodie Baby,” is also accused of attacking Diau. Neither Brown nor Akinlolu has entered a plea yet. They’re due back in court on June 20.

Brown is known for hits like “Run It,” “Kiss Kiss,” and “Without You.” He won his first Grammy in 2011. The singer is set to kick off an international music tour in July, with stops in the US and Europe.
