Chinese Foreign Minister arrives in Kabul on unannounced visit

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi arrived in the Afghan capital Kabul on Thursday morning on an unannounced visit.

Afghan Foreign Ministry spokesman Abdul Qahar Balkhi said that Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi received the distinguished guest at the airport. Political, economic and transit issues, air corridors, export of dried fruits and educational issues were discussed during the meeting.

Abdul Qahar Balkhi further said that the meeting between the two Foreign Ministers discussed the issuance of scholarship visas, commencement of work in the mining sector and Afghanistan’s participation in China’s Belt and Road Initiative project.

Foreign Minister Wang Yi described the visit to Afghanistan as a step towards strengthening comprehensive ties, saying that Afghanistan and China emphasize the historic ties with Afghanistan.
