Chinese army introduces its drone-borne combat robot dog technology

The Chinese military created a video showcasing its new military technology, revealing a robotic dog that can be taken down by a drone.

The video, initially posted on the verified Weibo account of “Kestrel Defense Blood-Wing”, a page affiliated with a Chinese defense contractor, shows a drone flying over a building and then dropping a robot onto the roof.

After the drone flies away, the robot gets up on all fours and starts looking for targets around the building with what appears to be some sort of automatic weapon strapped to its back.

According to a report by the war zonethe weapon mounted on the robot dog is possibly a Chinese light machine gun QBB-97, which is capable of firing 650 rounds per minute at an effective distance of 400 meters.

A description of the robot published by Kestrel Defense Blood-Wing boasts that the weapon can easily “launch a surprise attack”.

Chinese technology and other similar weapons have so far been designed to be operated by a human at the controls, though military analysts fear systems are being developed in which robots designed to operate autonomously could soon be deployed to battlefields.
