China is gearing up for its national university entrance exams, known as the “Gaokao”. This year, 13.35 million students are set to take the exams, which start on June 7.
The number of students is slightly lower than last year’s record high of 13.42 million. The Ministry of Education has instructed local authorities to ensure the exams run smoothly and has launched a nationwide operation to crack down on cheating.
To prevent cheating, strict security checks will be in place at exam venues. Prohibited items like mobile phones, smartwatches, and smart glasses will be confiscated. Local governments will also provide transportation, accommodation, and healthcare services to students.
The Ministry of Education is also providing special assistance to disadvantaged students. Braille exams will be available for 16 blind students, and over 14,000 students with disabilities will receive special support. Additionally, students can access psychological counseling services to help them cope with exam stress.
The exams are a crucial milestone for Chinese students, determining their future educational and career prospects. With the exams just around the corner, students are feeling the pressure. The government is taking steps to ensure the exams are fair and accessible to all, and that students receive the support they need to succeed.
