China has changed the names of 11 places in disputed Arunachal Pradesh. The move was made in response to the US Senate’s recognition of Indian rights over the disputed territory.
Among the changed names are two land places, two cities, 5 peaks and two rivers. In 2017 and 2021 as well, in response to aggressive Indian actions, China has changed the names of regions in Arunachal Pradesh.
This is the third time that China has changed the names of eleven more places in India’s northeastern state of Arunachal Pradesh. China calls it the southern part of Tibet, Zingan. After the actions of the Chinese authorities, there was a wave of concern in the Modi government.
Analysts say that Beijing’s purpose in changing the names of the disputed areas is actually an attempt to strengthen Chinese claims to these areas and to produce or change evidence in favor of its claims so that if sovereignty is challenged in an international court. If a case is filed, Beijing can present it in its support.
