China Heat Wave
Highlights
- Electricity demand has increased by 65 lakh kWh this year
- The daily temperature remains around 40 degrees
- All show-off lights and electric advertising boards have also been cut off.
China Heat Wave: Due to the heat and less rain in China, people are facing severe heat. At this time many parts of the country have broken the heat record. Apart from the scorching heat, the Chinese are also facing power cuts. Due to power failure in many provinces, people are unable to understand how to cope with the heat. In Chengdu, Chongqing and many such places, people are working with ice ingots. Due to this scorching heat, people had to get AC fast in their house, but due to lack of electricity, the AC has been shutting down. At the same time, the air conditioning system in the offices has been turned off and the employees are doing their work with the help of snowflakes.
Snow finish and finish
Like Twitter, a user shared the photo on China’s micro-blogging site Weibo and wrote that ‘The air conditioning system in our office has been switched off for the last two days. In such a situation, ice blocks have been placed at many corners of the office. I have only seen such a scene in a costume drama. This user further wrote that even this is not getting any help. Some budgies are compelled to keep ice on their chest. You have to work hard all day. As the snow melts, the temperature reaches 37.5. Then all the enthusiasm to work also ends.
Many people living in Chengdu’s urban areas are facing problems due to power cuts. In China’s southwest Sichuan province, the scorching heat has crossed all records. The daily temperature here remains around 40 degrees. One user wrote that ‘long summer vacation meant for me sitting in AC at home playing video games or going to the mall with friends. But this time summer has changed my lifestyle. There is no electricity for hours and in such a situation, life has become difficult.
Why is there a crowd in the mall?
The local power company has told the people that due to high demand, the problem of grid failure has increased. People in Chengdu have switched off ACs to save electricity. The number of people going to the mall eating AC air is increasing and in such a situation the mall is not doing any such work. According to the Sichuan Electric Power Company, the demand for electricity this year has increased by 6.5 million kWh compared to last year. Several measures are being adopted to meet the growing demand for electricity in Sichuan. More than 400 industries in Yibin have stopped production. ACs in entertainment venues such as malls, internet cafes, bars, karaoke bars and tea houses in Chengdu have been switched off until further notice. Not only this, the power of all show-off lights and electric advertisement boards has also been cut.
The assurance given to the Chinese people
Experts say that this power cut has happened due to the scorching heat. The water of the Yangtze River has been decreasing since July. The same happened in the year 1961 when there was very little water left in the river. The main stream of the river is also drying up. “Sichuan relies on hydro-electric systems for 77 percent of its electricity,” said Lin Boqiang, president of the China Institute for Studies in Energy Policy. But he has expressed hope that the situation will change in the coming week or two. Lin said industries consume 70 percent of the electricity. In such a situation, it would be better if the industry should stop production for a few days.
