Places China has renamed include mountain peaks, rivers and residential areas. This is the third time China has changed the name of Arunachal Pradesh. Earlier, China changed its name in April 2017 and December 2021.
According to a notification issued by China’s Ministry of Urban Affairs on Sunday, certain geographical areas of Arunachal Pradesh (referred to by China as South Tibet in the notification) have been named in accordance with the specific rules of the Cabinet. That is, from now on, the names of those places in Arunachal will be written in Mandarin characters on the Chinese map.
The border conflict between India and China has intensified since April-May 2020. The conflict initially started on the eastern Ladakh border. As a result of that conflict, there was a clash in Galwan. 20 Indian soldiers lost their lives. India claims that many Chinese soldiers were also killed. Later, after diplomatic and military level meetings, troops were withdrawn from some areas. In the meantime, the conflict also started on the Arunachal border.
