A Chinese court has executed a man who stabbed a 10-year-old Japanese boy to death last year in Shenzhen.
The boy was walking to school when the attack happened.
The execution was confirmed by the Japanese embassy in Beijing, citing information from China’s foreign ministry.
The attacker, Zhong Changchun, was sentenced to death in January for murder.
Attack Details
The embassy said Japan views the killing of an innocent child as an unforgivable crime.
They welcomed the execution as a serious response.
The embassy also stated that Japan will continue to take all possible security measures and urged China to ensure the safety of Japanese nationals.
During the trial, Zhong didn’t mention Japan, according to a Japanese official present.
Zhong had asked to speak with the victim’s family but didn’t clarify if he targeted Japanese people.
Similar Incident
Zhong’s execution came a day after another Chinese court sentenced Zhou Jiesheng to death for murdering a Japanese mother and child in Suzhou in June 2024.
Zhou, 52, also attacked a Chinese woman trying to protect them.
Both cases have raised concerns about unregulated nationalist sentiment online in China,
which may have contributed to attacks on foreigners, particularly Japanese nationals, due to historical tensions.
