Beijing: China has announced Chinese character names, Tibetan and Roman alphabets for 15 more places in the northeastern Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh. Let us tell you that China continues to claim southern Arunachal Pradesh as Tibet. The state-run Global Times reported Thursday that China’s Ministry of Civil Affairs announced on Wednesday that it had standardized 15 place names in Zhangnan (the Chinese name for Arunachal Pradesh) in Chinese characters, Tibetan and Roman alphabets.

China also changed the names of 6 places in 2017

The news said that this is in accordance with the rules on geographical names issued by the Chinese cabinet ‘State Council’. It states that the official 15 place names, given exact longitude and latitude, have 8 residential places, 4 mountains, 2 rivers, and a mountain pass. China has changed the names of places in Arunachal Pradesh for the second time. Previously, it had changed the names of 6 places in 2017. China claims Arunachal Pradesh as southern Tibet, which has been strongly rejected by the Foreign Ministry and says the state is an “indivisible part of India.”

There is a dispute between India and China over LAC
China regularly opposes visits by top Indian leaders and officials to Arunachal Pradesh to substantiate its claim. India and China share a 3,488 km long Royal Line of Control (LAC) over which there is a dispute between the two. According to the Global Times report, China has changed the names of 8 places, Sengkejong and Daglungzong in Kona county in Shannan region, Manigang, Duding and Migpen in Medog county in Nyingchi, Goling, Danga and the prefecture of Shannan from Jieyu County in Nyingchi. Mezag from Lunzhe County is included.

‘China’s sovereignty to give standardized names to places’
The names of four mountains are Wamori, Deu Ri, Lungzhub Ri and Kunmingshingje Fang, while the names of two rivers are Sheongmo Hee and Dulan He, according to the report. Apart from this, the Kona County mountain pass has been called ‘Se La’. The news quoted Lian Xingmil, an expert at China’s Tibet Scientific Research Center in Beijing, as claiming that the announcement was part of a national survey of place names that have been around for hundreds of years. He said it was a legitimate move and it was China’s sovereignty to give them a standardized name. Standardized names for more places in the area will be announced in the near future. (Idiom)
