Child Stolen from Hospital by Unlikely Thief Caught on Video

Swift Action Leads to Recovery of Stolen Baby in Paraguay

A brazen crime was foiled in Paraguay after a 39-year-old Argentine woman was caught attempting to leave the country with a newborn baby.

The woman, disguised as hospital staff, was captured on security footage entering the maternity ward of a hospital in the Obrero neighborhood of AsunciĆ³n. The footage shows her taking the baby, who was only a day old, and departing the scene without arousing suspicion.

After fleeing the hospital, the woman’s actions became increasingly suspicious. She boarded a bus to a nearby market, where she purchased clothing for herself and the baby. She then took a taxi to the Loma PytĆ” area, where she inquired about transportation to Nanawa, a town on the border with Argentina’s Clorinda province.

Interception and Aftermath

The hospital authorities quickly alerted the authorities, leading to a swift search operation. The woman was intercepted just 50 meters from the Argentine border.

According to prosecutor Laura Finestra, the woman has no prior criminal record. However, she now faces charges of violating parental authority, which carries a 5-year sentence in Paraguay.

The baby, fortunately, was rescued unharmed and reunited with her mother. The incident highlights the importance of vigilance and swift action in preventing and responding to child abduction cases.
