Chelsea Football Club just made a smart move to bolster their squad. They’ve brought in Facundo Buonanotte, a promising Argentine attacking midfielder, on a season-long loan. He joins the London side from Brighton, and the announcement came directly from the Seagulls.
Buonanotte is only 20 years old. He spent the last season, 2024/25, on loan at Leicester City, also from Brighton. During his time with the Foxes, he was a key player, scoring six goals and providing three assists across 35 games. Unfortunately, that season ended with Leicester being relegated to the Championship. Brighton, the club that released the news, also reportedly has Portuguese players Dário Essugo and Pedro Neto in its ranks.
Buonanotte’s Journey to Stamford Bridge
This young talent began his journey in football at Rosario Central, where he came through the youth system and started his professional career. After catching the eye, he moved to Brighton. He was a part of their main team for two years, gaining valuable experience before this latest loan spell. He has also represented Argentina twice at the international level, a significant achievement for a player his age.
Reports from the British press suggest that this loan deal does not include any option or obligation for Chelsea to buy him outright. This means he’s expected back at Brighton once the season ends. The cost of this temporary move is estimated to be around two million pounds, which works out to about 2.3 million euros. For Chelsea, it looks like a chance to get a dynamic player for a year without a long-term commitment.
Chelsea has already had a successful run, having won the Club World Cup. They are also set to face Benfica in the league phase of the Champions League. Their start to the Premier League season has been solid, too, with two victories and one draw so far. Adding Buonanotte could give them another creative spark. The club even shared his arrival on social media.
