Chelsea Nears Deal for Mike Maignan, Eyes Milan Replacement

Milan’s goalkeeper is in high demand. Chelsea refuses to give up on signing Mike Maignan. This forces Milan to look for a replacement. They’re eyeing Mile Svilar, formerly of Benfica.

The Italian club already rejected a 10-million-euro offer from Chelsea. But the English team upped their bid by 5 million euros, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. Gazzetta dello Sport says the new offer is 18 million euros.

This might be Chelsea’s final offer. They want a decision from Milan by Tuesday, when the transfer window closes before the Club World Cup. Maignan, whose contract with Milan expires in a year, wants to move to Stamford Bridge.

If Maignan leaves, Milan will need a new goalkeeper. They might find one in Roma’s Svilar. He’s their top choice, says Gazzetta dello Sport. Svilar’s contract with Roma runs until 2027, and he earns about 1 million euros per season. Roma tried to renew his contract, doubling his salary, but Svilar rejected it, asking for 4 million euros instead.

Milan might match that salary if Maignan leaves. The French goalkeeper currently earns around 3 million euros, which Milan could offer to his replacement.

Chelsea isn’t just focused on the goalkeeper position. They’re also targeting Dortmund’s Jamie Bynoe-Gittens. The German club rejected Chelsea’s initial 35-million-euro offer, but a better bid is expected soon.

Bynoe-Gittens is open to the transfer, which would include a seven-year contract. In the Bundesliga, he scored 8 goals and had 4 assists in 32 games.
