Checkout.com Launches Intelligent Acceptance, AI Solution That Increases Acceptance Rates

checkout.comthe global provider of payment solutions, launches today Intelligent Acceptance, their latest product to help merchants optimize acceptance rates, increase performance and therefore new revenue streams.

Intelligent Acceptance is an AI-powered optimization engine, trained on billions of transactional data points from Checkout.com’s global network, and the company’s business experience from a decade at the forefront of the digital economy. So far, the new product has achieved significant results for merchants during its beta testing, recovering more than 690 million euros of revenue and increasing acceptance rates by 9.5% on average for more than 30 merchants, including Klarna, Ant Group, NordVPN, Reach, and Sunday.

Since the launch of Intelligent Acceptance, the authorization rate for payments processed by Checkout.com has increased by almost 10%. In an industry where small improvements have a big impact, this performance improvement is colossal for our business and, most importantly, for our clients’ bottom lines.”, has detailed Melissa Pottenger, Head of Key Partnership, Reach.

We believe it is critical to remove the complexity for businesses and allow them to streamline their payments with ease; Intelligent Acceptance allows us to offer this to our first-time merchants at scale. Merchants alone do not have enough data to effectively train an AI algorithm, which puts us in a unique position to leverage our extensive global transaction data to provide real-time insights and help merchants adapt. That’s why we’ve built an adaptive, AI-powered payments engine that constantly optimizes acceptance rates, unlocking more revenue, saving merchants time, and offering greater cost control.”, has affirmed Meron Colbeci, Chief Product Officer of Checkout.com.

Use machine learning and millions of data to create a solution for businesses

Intelligent Acceptance optimizes the payment system, including pre-processing aspects, such as messaging and routing, and post-processing, with custom retries. Merchants also have full control over which phase of the transaction process is improved and Intelligent Acceptance optimization criteria, such as maximizing acceptance rates or reducing transaction costs. Through continuous real-time analytics, data sharing from Checkout.com, and direct relationships with issuers, entities, and agencies, Intelligent Acceptance continually unlocks new optimizations to deliver continuous performance improvements.

Optimization Examples

  • Acceptance: Network Tokens can offer better acceptance rates, lower interchange fees, and a more secure way to share card information. However, not all entities accept this method of sharing information. Intelligent Acceptance only uses Network Tokens if the issuer supports them and the expected cost is lower, or the probability of success is higher, than in a standard transaction.
  • Cost: If cost reduction is the primary driver, Intelligent Acceptance can dynamically direct transactions to the network with the lowest fees, in markets where multiple payment networks are available, such as the United States.
  • Compliance: Intelligent Acceptance instantly identifies if a transaction requires 3DS authentication, and if it has not been activated on the initial payment request, available 3DS authentication data is automatically added to the payment request to ensure the transaction is successful.

“Klarna benefits from improved authorization rates thanks to adjustments made in the background, which would otherwise imply a loss of volume. In addition, Intelligent Acceptance helps to minimize additional payment costs applied by schemes due to the same transaction being processed in a way that does not suit the preferences of the issuer. The improvement of the acceptance rate, leads to a better customer experience, and the reduction of payment commissions are the main advantages of the tool”it states Tomer Turbovich, Senior Engineering Manager & Money Movements account group lead at Klarna, one of the leading online payment providers.

Rejected payments, a problem of 47,000 million euros

The launch comes at a time when business leaders are trying to accelerate revenue and achieve greater profitability in their businesses to reconcile rising expenses. Intelligent Acceptance can reduce the number of incorrectly rejected transactions through continuous testing, but it can also be configured to lower transaction fees and reduce operational expenses. An investigation carried out by Checkout.com together with Oxford Economics revealed that in 2022 more than 47,000 million euros were lost due to false rejects, in which a customer with sufficient funds in their account has a purchase rejected. As a result, close to 25% of consumers abandoned their purchase, resulting in a significant loss of revenue for merchants.

Any friction in the payment process can have a detrimental impact on the acquisition of the products we offer, to avoid this problem we have redesigned the consumer experience. Reducing the likelihood that a customer will have a bad first impression of Sunday is critical to our success, and Checkout.com reduces the likelihood of this.“, said Daniel Hosking, VP of Payments at Sunday.

Intelligent Acceptance is the latest solution in Checkout.com’s Payments Plus offering. A continuation of their recent releases, such as enhancements to Authenticationissuance of virtual and physical cards customizable with issuing, Fraud Detection to help businesses fight fraud and optimize their revenue and Integrated Platformsa fully flexible solution to support marketplaces and Payfacs in a constantly evolving digital economy.
