Actor and writer Chaz Bono officially married his longtime partner Shara Blue Mathes on March 8 in Los Angeles. The ceremony took place at the historic Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, formalizing a relationship that began when the couple reconnected in 2017.
Details of the event were confirmed by multiple entertainment publications on Friday. Bono, the 57-year-old son of the musical duo Sonny and Cher, was attended by his mother and his half-brother, Elijah Blue Allman, alongside Mathes’ 25-year-old son, Cooper.
The couple hosted a “Hollywood Glam Formal” themed wedding. Bono wore a traditional black tuxedo accented with a purple calla lily boutonnière, while Mathes wore a long-sleeved white lace gown. The newlyweds are scheduled to travel to Hawaii for their honeymoon.
The couple’s history dates back over four decades to their time as teenagers studying at the Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute in New York City. After losing touch, they reunited through mutual friends and began dating in January 2017. Mathes, who works as a social services case manager, underwent treatment for stage 3 breast cancer following a 2021 diagnosis, a period during which Bono remained her primary support system.
