ChatGPT extends functionality by supporting third-party plugins

OpenAI announced that it has added support for plugins in ChatGPT. The first plugins were created by Expedia, FiscalNote, Instacart, KAYAK, Klarna, Milo, OpenTable, Shopify, Slack, Speak, Wolfram It is Zapier.

For developers interested in creating plugins or people who want to test plugins, OpenAI has opened a new waiting list to participate.

OpenAI has launched ChatGPT Plus and it is these paying users who will be accepted from the waiting list to test plugins initially.

Another interesting point that OpenAI raised is the issue of open standards.

We expect open standards to emerge to unify the ways in which applications expose an AI-driven interface. We are working on a first look at what this pattern might look like and are seeking input from developers interested in developing with us.

In addition to third-party extensions that allow things like searching for flights, comparing prices in online stores and placing orders, OpenAI has been working on two proprietary plugins called Navigation and Code Interpreter.

the plugin browsing browse the web to retrieve the most up-to-date information, while the code interpreter you can use python and manage uploads and downloads.

Considering that OpenAI kickstarted generative AI with the release of ChatGPT late last year, we’re still in a very early stage for this type of product.
