Charlie Kirk Murder: Tyler Robinson, 22, Identified and Arrested

The latest on the tragic shooting of Charlie Kirk confirms that a suspect is now in police custody. Tyler Robinson, 22, has been identified as the alleged shooter. This significant update came through The Associated Press early on September 12, 2025. A law enforcement officer confirmed Robinson’s arrest on that Friday, though they couldn’t share many more details about the ongoing investigation at the time.

President Donald Trump, 79, had previously announced the suspect’s arrest on Fox News that same Friday. He stated, “Basically, someone very close to him turned him in.” Trump added that he believed, “with a high degree of certainty, we have him in custody.” He also hinted that more details would come out later on Friday.

Trump further explained that authorities had “very good pictures” of the person they were looking for. He clarified these images were “not excellent, not perfect,” but clear enough for someone close to the suspect to identify him. “Someone very close to him said, ‘Hm, that’s him,’” Trump recounted.

The FBI had been actively searching for a person of interest. On Thursday, September 11, they released photos to the public. They also offered a reward for anyone who could provide helpful information. The FBI’s social media post urged, “We are asking for the public’s help to identify this person of interest in connection with the fatal shooting of Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University. 1-800-CALL-FBI.”

The tragic event unfolded on Wednesday, September 10. Charlie Kirk, the 31-year-old founder of Turning Point USA, was shot and killed. This happened while he was giving a speech at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. His organization, Turning Point USA, shared the heartbreaking news in a statement that Wednesday. They wrote, “With great sadness, we, the leadership team of Turning Point USA, write to notify you that this afternoon, Charlie departed for his eternal reward with Jesus Christ in heaven.”

After Kirk’s death was confirmed, Donald Trump shared his thoughts on his Truth Social platform. He wrote, “The great, and even legendary, Charlie Kirk has died.” Trump continued, “Nobody understood or had the heart of America’s youth better than Charlie. He was loved and admired by ALL, especially by me, and now, he is no longer with us.”

Trump’s TV appearance on Friday morning happened after Kirk’s body had been moved to Arizona. On Thursday, Vice President JD Vance and members of the National Guard transported Kirk’s body on Air Force Two. Kirk’s wife, Erika Frantzve, and their two children were also on that flight. The late conservative political commentator’s funeral is expected later this month, but further details have not yet been shared with the public.

Many well-known individuals have spoken out following Kirk’s death. On Instagram, Jimmy Kimmel shared his feelings. He said, “Instead of angrily pointing fingers, can we, for just one day, accept that it’s horrific and monstrous to shoot another person?” Kimmel added, “On behalf of my family, we send love to the Kirks and all children, parents, and innocents who are victims of senseless gun violence.”
