In Bueil in the Eure, the Municipal Museum of Cinema and Photography – Jean Delannoy presents since 2014 exhibitions paying tribute to the great names of cinema. After Bourvil and Michel Audiard, it’s Charlie Chaplin’s turn to be honored until the end of October.

An idea of the daughter of Jean Delannoy, Claire Delannoy, president of the Association of Friends of the museum, born while rummaging through the family archives. She discovered that her father and Charlot had met in Paris in 1952.

He came to present “Les Feux de la Ramp” and my father received him very officially, they had lunch together and talked to each other about their job. This is what made me want to pay homage to Chaplin.

To mount this exhibition, Claire Delannoy was able to acquire documents, posters of course, of her most famous films, but also photos on set, or outside with some unseen or rarely seen shots.

The exhibition also shows the attachment of this film giant for silent and black and white films which constitute the majority of his work. Only these last films in the 50s will be in color and talking. “He did not believe in talking Chaplin, he came there of course but he said that the gesture, a mimicry, says much more than a word“, says Claire Delannoy.

This exhibition was put together thanks to the twelve volunteers who bring this small museum to life. With this exhibition dedicated to this cinema giant, they hope to attract many lovers of the 7th Art, and exceed the figure of 1,600 visitors achieved in 2019.
