Charles III targeted by egg throwing during a visit, a man arrested

King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla were the target of at least four egg throws this Wednesday in York (Yorkshire, United Kingdom). According to The Guardian, they were visiting the city to inaugurate a statue of the late Queen Elizabeth II. The royal couple were waving to the crowd that had come to welcome them when an individual threw several eggs at them. He also allegedly shouted, “This country was built on the blood of slaves.”

Suspect arrested

No egg reached King Charles III and his wife, who were immediately dismissed by the police. The alleged attacker was restrained by police officers amid shouts of protest from the crowd, such as “Shame on you” and “God bless the king”. The 23-year-old suspect was arrested on “suspicion of breaching public order”. It would be a former candidate of the Green Party (Green Party), also an activist in the environmental group Extinction Rebellion.

As reminded West France, the slavery past of Great Britain has been particularly evoked in recent months. Prince Andrew and Charles III have faced criticism during their trip to the Caribbean. Some States are demanding official apologies and financial compensation for the colonization suffered in previous centuries.
