CFE Reveals Simple Trick to Reduce Electricity Bill by Adjusting Air Conditioner Temperature

Mexico’s electricity consumption can be high, resulting in hefty bills from the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE). However, there are ways to cut down on energy expenses. According to the CFE, setting the air conditioner to 25 degrees Celsius during hot weather can make a significant difference. Experts say that for every degree below 25, energy consumption increases by 4-6%. So, setting it to 22 degrees or lower can lead to substantial unnecessary energy usage.

Smart Ways to Save Energy with Your Air Conditioner

The CFE suggests a few simple tips to reduce energy consumption when using air conditioners and other appliances. To start, install your air conditioner in a spot that’s not near heat sources like lamps or stoves and is away from windows. Also, avoid running it for extended periods; turn it on for a few minutes to cool the room, then switch it off.

Other energy-saving tips from the CFE include:

  • Replacing traditional light bulbs with energy-efficient ones
  • Turning off lights in unoccupied rooms
  • Not overloading your washing machine
  • Keeping your refrigerator away from heat sources
  • Unplugging unused electrical devices
  • Adjusting your refrigerator’s temperature
  • Checking for electrical current leaks
  • Installing energy-saving devices

These measures can help households save on their energy bills. In fact, the CFE has been working to ensure accurate billing by replacing old meters with new ones that provide clearer readings, so consumers pay only for what they use.

Summer Discounts

From May 1 to October 31, residents in the states of Sonora, Sinaloa, Baja California, and Nayarit will receive a discount on their electricity bills as part of the summer subsidy. This initiative aims to provide some relief during the hot summer months when energy consumption tends to be higher.
