CFE Announces Summer Discounts in Select Regions for Electricity Bills

Summer is here and the heat is on. That means air conditioners and fans are working overtime, driving up electricity bills. The Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) is stepping in to help, offering discounts to some users to ease the financial strain.

As temperatures soar above 33 degrees Celsius, people are seeking relief from the sweltering heat. But the increased use of air conditioners and fans puts a strain on the electrical grid, leading to higher bills and even power outages in areas with infrastructure issues. The CFE is providing a discount to users in regions where the temperature exceeds 33 degrees Celsius from May to October.

The discount is not automatic, however. The CFE has divided the country into regions to determine who is eligible. The regions include Baja California, Baja California Sur, Northwest, North, Northeast, South and Peninsula, and Center. But even if your state is in one of these regions, you may not qualify for the discount if the temperature in your area doesn’t meet the minimum threshold or if your electricity consumption is too high or too low.

To calculate the discount, the CFE uses a special pricing table. For eligible users, the costs are as follows:

  • Basic consumption: $0.80 pesos per 300 kilowatt-hours per hour
  • Low intermediate consumption: $0.99 pesos per 900 kilowatt-hours per hour
  • High intermediate consumption: $2.42 pesos per 1300 kilowatt-hours per hour

To check if you’re eligible for the discount, look for the symbol “1F” on your electricity bill. If you don’t see it, you’ll need to pay the full amount. If you think there’s an error, you can contact the CFE at 071 to report the issue.

The summer subsidy is a welcome relief for many families. But you can still take steps to reduce your energy consumption and lower your bill. The CFE offers tips on how to save energy during the summer months. By following these tips, you can stay cool and save money at the same time.
