Cervecería says many bottles are lost because people do not return them

The new coronavirus pandemic has made the population’s consumption habits change. Few people now visit bars or other alcoholic beverage outlets to consume beer.

This is one of the factors that has contributed to the glass bottle shortage and, therefore, of Presidente beer, in the Dominican National Brewery (CND).

“People are consuming more in their homes and / or in open spaces, so a a large part of the bottles is lost or returns much more slowly to our production plants. As a result of this change in consumption, they take more than 100 days to reach us, while when they return directly from the point of sale we receive them in less than 15 days “, indicates a CND statement published this Tuesday in the media.

Another factor that in this year the company has only received just over 50% of the bottles it ordered from its suppliers abroad Because the increase in consumption in most countries has caused the shipping companies that transport the goods and supplies to be out of supply, causing shortages in all industries, the statement said.

La Cervecería emphasizes that it is facing these challenges and that it has been working for months in the search for solutions. One of them was the signing of an agreement with Caribbean Glass Industry to produce glass bottles in the local market.

“The factory is in the testing phase and we hope to receive the bottles in the coming months. This initiative will result in a gradual increase in the availability of beer ”, indicates the publication.

Another measure that the CND is implementing is to encourage the return of bottles by increasing their price by 50%.

“We thank the customers, bottle racks and consumers who support us by returning the bottles, as this is everyone’s effort,” he requests.
