The Governor of the Central Bank of the Dominican Republic (BCRD), Héctor Valdez Albizu, presided over the opening ceremony of the exhibition ‘Cultural heritage and food in Dominican numismatics and philately’, organized by this institution for the commemoration of 179 anniversary of National Independence.

The exhibition presents pieces of great value belonging to the Dominican heritage, thus responding to the commitment of the Central Bank to share its numismatic and philatelic treasures.

Among the pieces shown is the cultural heritage that dates back to the conquest of the island; Taíno, Spanish and African elements; revealing the food symbols and details contained in banknotes issued and coins minted in different periods, as well as in numerous postage stamps stamped with allegories on the subject.
