Celta de Vigo are on the lookout for reinforcements for their squad before the transfer market closes on August 31. Rafa Benítez, coach of the Galicia team, is looking for a goalkeeper who inspires confidence and is therefore considering different options. Among the many alternatives that have been the subject of rumors, the name of Atlético de Madrid goalkeeper Ivo Grbic also appears.
In the first two days of the league, Iván Villar defended Celta’s colors in goal. However, Benítez is looking for a more solid and experienced solution under the three posts and appears to be considering Ivo Grbic for that role. The Croatian goalkeeper is in the last year of his contract with Atlético de Madrid and knows his options will be limited with Jan Oblak as his first option unless the Slovenian is injured.
Celta de Vigo are interested in getting rid of Atlético
Although that’s just a possibility at the moment, the idea of Celta de Vigo being interested in Ivo Grbic has generated interest and speculation. So far, no offer or formal contact between the two teams has been reported. However, Atlético de Madrid are ready to sell the player if there is a suitable offer.
Alternatives under consideration also include extending Ivo Grbic’s contract at Atlético de Madrid and then transferring him to Celta de Vigo with an option to buy. This could be a win-win strategy for both the player and both clubs, allowing the goalkeeper to gain experience and minutes of play in a competitive environment while Celta find a solution to their goalkeeping needs.
As the days go by and the deadline for the market to close gets closer, it will be interesting to see how the negotiations develop and if Celta de Vigo eventually decide on Ivo Grbic as a goalkeeper to improve their performance in goal next stage of the season.
