CD Tenerife Counselor Rayco Garcia Arrested for Alleged Gender Violence

The National Police arrested Rayco García, counselor and second-largest shareholder of CD Tenerife, on Wednesday, according to sources from the Provincial Police Station. Details about García’s arrest are limited, but the newspaper El Día has reported that it is related to an alleged case of gender violence. García was set to assume the presidency of Tenerife once Paulino Rivero leaves the position on March 30.

Background on García’s Involvement with CD Tenerife

García had recently gained control of the club by gathering enough support to dismiss two trusted counselors of the highest shareholder, José Miguel Garrido, and appoint two new ones, thereby guaranteeing a majority in the management body. This move was seen as a significant shift in the club’s leadership. However, the club is now facing an extraordinary shareholders’ meeting in eight days, requested by Garrido, which will address the cessation and appointment of board members, delegation of powers, and other important matters.

Agreements and Shareholder Dynamics

Previously, the four major shareholders, before García’s significant purchase of titles, had signed an agreement delegating sports management to José Miguel Garrido. This agreement also included a provision for the shareholders to vote unanimously, with a penalty of one million euros for non-compliance. García’s actions and the upcoming meeting have added complexity to the club’s institutional situation.

Team Performance

Compounding the institutional challenges is the team’s current sports performance. CD Tenerife is 11 points away from safety positions in LaLiga Hypermotion, adding pressure to the club’s already delicate situation. The combination of these factors underscores the significant challenges facing CD Tenerife, both on and off the field.
