CBFC Clears ‘Dhurandhar’, States Film is Fiction Despite Family Objections

Film ‘Dhurandhar’ has received a clean chit from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). This clearance resolves a legal challenge that sought to halt its release. The film is scheduled to hit theaters on December 5, 2025.

The legal dispute originated from the family of Major Mohit Sharma, who filed a petition with the Delhi High Court. They argued the film was based on Major Sharma’s life without proper authorization. The family claimed the spy thriller depicted his secret operations and martyrdom.

On Monday, the court instructed the CBFC to review the film. The board was specifically tasked with addressing the concerns raised by Major Mohit Sharma’s family.

Following its review, the CBFC stated that ‘Dhurandhar’ is a work of fiction. This official declaration was made on Tuesday, clearing the path for its theatrical distribution.

Major Mohit Sharma’s brother commented on the development, expressing trust in the CBFC’s process. He hoped a disclaimer would be added to the film. He also suggested a special screening for the Sharma family to quell public rumors.

Director Aditya Dhar previously clarified the film’s premise on social media. He asserted that ‘Dhurandhar’ is not based on Major Sharma’s life. Dhar stated any future biopic would be made with the family’s full consent and respect.

The film stars Ranveer Singh, Akshay Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, R Madhavan, and Sara Arjun. It is positioned as a spy thriller.
