Casio Launches Moflin: Furry AI Pet Responds Emotionally, Costs $429

Casio has unveiled “Moflin,” a new artificial intelligence (AI) pet designed to provide emotional companionship and interactive responses, offering a solution for those unable to care for live animals.

The furry AI companion, developed by the electronics giant, utilizes “Emotional AI” technology to mimic the emotional responses of living creatures. It aims to offer emotional support and relaxation to its owners.

Moflin cannot engage in human conversation but responds to touch and sound with distinct movements and endearing sounds. Its emotional expressions, such as happiness, shyness, or clinginess, deepen and develop a unique personality through prolonged interaction with its owner.

The device is equipped with multiple sensors, including a microphone, illuminance sensor, touch sensors, and an accelerometer/gyroscope, to ensure realistic interactions. It responds to petting, hugging, and soft voices, also recognizing frequent speakers as its owner through non-identifying voice data.

Designed to be endearing, Moflin features a soft, furry exterior with only eyes, encouraging owners to use their imagination. Its small size ensures portability, and its charging stand resembles a miniature bathtub.

Owners can manage and monitor their Moflin using the dedicated “MofLife” smartphone application. The app displays the pet’s emotional status, logs interactions, and allows users to adjust settings like volume, check battery levels, and update software.

Moflin is available in two colors, silver and gold, and is priced at $429. It can be purchased directly from Casio’s website.
